One of the greatest running coaches ever, Jack Daniels, spent decades studying what separates elite runners from everyone else. What he found was surprisingly simple: 🏆 The best runners in the world spend MOST of their training running EASY. Not because they’re lazy. Because they understand something most runners don’t. Fitness isn’t built when you destroy your body. Fitness is built when your body adapts. And adaptation only happens when recovery is possible. When you run easy, your body starts building a stronger aerobic system. 🔋 More mitochondria (your muscle’s energy factories) 🫁 Better oxygen delivery ⚡ More efficient energy production 💪 Faster recovery 🏃 Higher sustainable speeds Think of it like building a bigger engine in a car. Caption: Getting exhausted after just 2kms of running? Honestly… most people don’t have a stamina problem. They have a pacing + conditioning problem. That was me too. I used to think: “Maybe I’m just not built for running.” But the reality was: I was training completely wrong. The biggest mistakes most beginners make: ❌ running too fast every session ❌ skipping aerobic base training ❌ trying to “push hard” daily ❌ poor breathing & pacing ❌ no recovery structure And then they wonder why: - heart rate shoots up - legs feel heavy - breathing gets out of control - even 3–5kms feels impossible The truth is: Your body builds endurance when it learns to become EFFICIENT. Not when you keep destroying yourself every run. The 3 biggest changes that helped me: 1️⃣ Slowing down my easy runs Most people run easy days TOO hard. Building Zone 2 aerobic conditioning improves: ✔ stamina ✔ recovery ✔ heart efficiency ✔ fat utilisation ✔ endurance capacity 2️⃣ Stopping random workouts I started following structured running + strength sessions instead of “doing more.” That improved: 🏃 running economy 🔥 fatigue resistance 🏋️ strength endurance 3️⃣ Focusing on recovery & fueling Hydration, electrolytes, carbs, sleep, and recovery massively affect performance — especially in Indian weather conditions.
