Once small enough to fit in Mr. Mitani’s hand, Bon-chan has grown into a 70 kg local celebrity, often dressed in adorable seasonal outfits as he makes his way through town 🐢 Hisao Mitani didn’t know that the little shell of an African spurred tortoise would become his [massive] lifelong companion for nearly 28 years and counting. Bon-chan moves at his own slow and steady pace, completely unfazed by the city’s energy. Mr. Mitani walks beside him patiently. Bon-chan leads the way. People stop, shocked at first but then they smile and take photos - it’s impossible not to be charmed. This was by far one of my favorite days in Tokyo - we just got incredibly lucky. Some say that Mr. Mitani walks Bon-chan only a few times a week and at random times. Their walks only last about an hour. If you’re lucky enough to see them, be mindful - respect their space and ask before taking photos. My friend @Kohki spoke to Mr. Mitani, who happily shared stories about his life with Bon-chan (in Japanese). Caption: Saudi Arabia is honestly one of our favorite destinations on Earth. The people, the landscapes, the energy! It’s truly unforgettable! We’ve personally been to Saudi Arabia twice. Once chasing the golden-hour light over Hegra’s ancient tombs in AlUla, and once standing on the Edge of the World watching the sun drop over endless desert. Still takes our breath away every time. Pure magic. We can’t recommend this destination enough!

Caption: mermaid 🧜‍♀️ @nicoleisaacs says “truly the most insane ocean encounter of my life-and I’ve had a lot of unforgettable, magical encounters and moments in the water. @jademaria_r and I took a boat out for the day and we never imagined we would have an experience like this. Dolphins are the most incredible creatures and their intelligence blows my mind. She literally came to us and asked for help- she knew what we were trying to do, and fully cooperated with us. A wild dolphin... and the rest of the pod watched, waited and celebrated with us when the remoras were off- truly unreal. I was 7 weeks pregnant when this happened which even made this more amazing- being surrounded by so many wild dolphins and experiencing this pregnant was once in a lifetime. ✨ Disclaimer: as the ocean guide that day, I trusted my instincts on this one. Our local captain said the fish needed to be removed as it was eating her flesh and causing pain. I don’t encourage touching wild animals, but at times I do think it’s necessary and circumstantial based. I believe what I did was the right decision, and based on the dolphins behavior, as well as the entire inter-species pod, (hundreds of them I may add), they all seemed to celebrate. Sometimes science and “whatever you’re taught in school classrooms” don’t apply in the wild- and you have to follow your gut (soul). It would not have sat right with me to just drive away when the dolphin came up to the boat like that. No regrets this day, and I stand by my decision wholeheartedly. Will never forget this day on the water- it just makes me want to dedicate my life to help all the injured and suffering animals in this world 🤍🙏” #animalrescue #dolphin #ocean #dolphinspotting #wildliterescue
