Caption: Expressive Art Therapy has shown me that we all hold immense potential to sense, feel, emote and share. Over the years we get conditioned to box ourselves into - good, bad, right, wrong, pretty, ugly etc etc and before we know it, we are no longer being, we are performing… I continue to catch myself adhering to expectations and acting with hopes for validation but the tools that expressive art therapy has given me makes me realise that these expectations are nothing but limitations. With these tools I give my emotions a colour, a form, i feel their texture and i speak to them.. I give them the attention they ask for and then releasing them is all the more simpler. . . . I adore all my other practices that demand alignment and structure but art therapy has added a layer of intuitiveness and fluidity to them. . . . . Caption: The first time you encounter a manta underwater, you never forget it, you’re left completely suspended between disbelief and absolute awe. Nothing quite takes your breath away like coming face to face with a giant manta ray gliding across the water column. It’s a feeling that never gets old. A giant bird, a graceful dancer, a gentle giant flying past you in the deep. Time stands still… but the currents certainly do not. Mantas love strong, raging currents. While we struggle to hold onto rocks within arm’s reach just to witness the moment, they appear completely unfazed. They thrive in these wild waters: gliding, looping, playing, and twirling as though the sea itself is directing their dance. The spot patterns on their bellies are unique to each individual, much like human fingerprints. Researchers use these markings to identify and track them over time. 🔎 How to read a Manta: 🐋 Oceanic Mantas: Feature large spots concentrated around their lower abdomen and a distinct “T-shaped” dark mark on their back. 🪸 Reef Mantas: Have smaller spots clustered mostly between their gill slits and a “Y-shaped” mark on their back. Caption: The nature of the mind is to monkey around. To hop, gallop, and prance from one thought to the next. 🙉 Like waves rising in an ocean, thoughts in the mind continuously emerge and dissolve. The energy of one wave transfers into the next, generating another and then another. Thoughts are contagious in this way. One thought arises and offers its energy to the next, initiating its emergence. And so these thought waves continue throughout our day and throughout our lives. 🌊 It is often said that no emotion physiologically lasts longer than about 90 seconds. Yet we hold onto emotions far beyond that. We revisit them, replay them, identify with them, and allow them to spread through our entire being. Similarly with thoughts — we do not simply experience them, we begin to believe that they are us. Yogic philosophy and practice emerged upon recognising this very tendency of the human mind. The practices ask us to first notice this restlessness, and then slowly learn how not to be consumed by it. To realise that the monkey mind is playing… and we are constantly getting pulled into the game. Waves collapse just as naturally as they rise. Thoughts too are transient. Yoga speaks about the distinction between the seer and the seen. The thoughts, emotions, reactions, sensations; these are all part of the seen, constantly changing from one moment to the next. But beneath all of this exists the seer, the one observing it all unfold. Through study and practice, we slowly learn how to rest more deeply in the role of the observer rather than becoming entangled in every passing wave of the mind. . . . . #yogapractice #yogaphilosophy #thoughtwaves
