#HighlightingHeritage – The Thriving, Surviving, And Forgotten
Online Talk by Ajay Sood
Heritage does not survive equally. Some monuments are illuminated, restored, and woven into national identity. Others survive quietly; neglected, misunderstood, or almost forgotten outside local memory. At our Online Talk #HighlightingHeritage, travel photographer Ajay Sood explores how architecture reflects not just history, but what societies choose to remember. From globally recognised icons like the Taj Mahal and Khajuraho to overlooked sites in Morena, Jammu, and rural India, he classifies heritage as thriving, surviving, or forgotten. Combining photography, travel, architecture, and visual storytelling, he asks what happens when parts of a civilisation fade from public memory, and whether photography can help people see them again before they disappear from collective consciousness.

Khajuraho is famous for its erotic sculptures. Most visitors snicker and leave in two hours. That is a tragedy. The Chandela kings built something far more profound here — an entire civilisation's philosophy expressed in stone. I waited for this sunset to understand why these temples face east. The light does the rest. Ten UNESCO sites, ten photography tips, one honest guide. Link in bio.

Earlier, this graceful feline roamed free in jungles of India. Today, this species is threatened. This reel is my sincere appeal to all to help #savethetiger

BIKANER
An erstwhile tiny royal province, This quiet, quaint town near the #IndoPakBorder, #Bikaner traditionally has been trader-dominated. These traders took pride in their lofty havelis (mansions). The key feature of these havelis is a trademark, delicate yet intricate stone carved exterior. Have a look at some of those mansions in this short. I have also slipped in a shot of #KarniMataTemple, also referred to as the Rats Temple.

SURREAL ICELAND
Rugged and scenic Iceland is replete with nature’s wonders ranging from auroras to geysers, lava caves to ice caves, glaciers to thermal baths, and more. Besides the 74.5 metre tall Hallgrimskirkja, the famous Viking installation (Sun Voyager), Iceland was the main location for the global hit Game of Thrones!

DAL LAKE, SRINAGAR
Pakistan disturbed the peace in Kashmir. But as a tribute to #Kashmir and #India, I bring you the most loved icon of Kashmir - #DalLake #Srinagar. In Kashmiri, Dal means lake. So let’s remove the redundancy. Here is Dal, Srinagar.
