Caption: The days are long, but the years are short. As a stay at home mom who tries to work from home (emphasis on *tries*) I often find myself getting stuck in the rut of doing the same thing every day. Whenever I’m having a hard day, or when I feel frustrated with the mess of it all, I remind myself that this season of my life is actually so short. So, so short. The days are long and the years are gone like THAT. I literally don’t know where they all go!? Lea is seven and our socks keep getting mixed up in the laundry😩 I find myself wearing rainbow socks that fit me perfectly and stand there wondering why I can’t remember buying rainbow socks before realizing they’re actually not mine. I’m wearing my daughter’s socks and they fit me😭 She was a toddler just a second ago! If I could teleport myself back to when she was Bears age I’d do it in a heartbeat. I’d slow down. Stress less. Worry less. I’d spend less time trying to make everything perfect and more time just being with her in the beautiful mess that is early motherhood. So. This time around I’m doing my best to pause whenever I can to just enjoy where we are. Oftentimes, it looks like this. Walking straight into the forest with no plan but to enjoy being with him always turn into our best days. I let him lead the way and we explore whatever direction he wants to go. It’s magical, adventuring with him. He points at things with so much wonder on his face, stumbling through the woods, picking up sticks and pinecones and showing them to me like they’re the most incredible things to have ever existed. I tell him the names of all the trees. We look for berries and mushrooms. He climbs rocks and I hold his hand. We pause to snack and lay down in the moss and as I lie there with his little body nuzzled into mine looking at the sky it hits me - I’m going to blink, and his feet are going to be as big as mine. One day not long from now I’ll yearn for this time so much that it’ll feel like my heart could just break. But that day isn’t here yet. No. It’s still today. It’s today, and it’s been beautiful. We pack up and start the hike back home. It’s almost time to pick Lea up from the bus. ❤️🌲🚌 #motherhood

Caption: This one bed of potatoes will barely need any maintenance (a bit of weeding, a bit of water) and by the end of the season it will bring us about 40kg (90lbs) of organic taters! Caption: When we opened the farm store we had a vision of sunflowers growing along the entrance to the farm and now… it’s finally happening! This field hasn’t received much love in the past few years and our goal is to bring this soil back to life❤️ After the sunflowers have bloomed (and we all have enjoyed them so!) we will plant a cover crop and bring the cows here to fertilize. Next up: CORN! For picking, and most importantly: a Maize Maze 🌽 (planning farm activities for the community to enjoy is our favorite, favorite thing. Caption: Out of all the little pieces of advice about growing food I could share here there is only one that saves me by the end of every spring: IT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE PERFECT! Gardening is a mess. It’s meant to be a mess! You’ll make plans and they won’t all pan out. Some things will work and some things won’t and no season is the same as the other. You won’t have time for everything and seedlings will die and you’ll forget to water things and there will be tools littered all across your yard and nothing will ever be finished. THIS IS HOW IT’S MEANT TO BE! Watching polished reels of perfectly organized garden beds and tidy landscaped gardens can be inspiring but it’s rarely what it actually looks like. Don’t let the aesthetic of the online world daunt you and don’t let your inner perfectionist keep you from getting started. Just grow some food! It’s beautiful and messy and also incredibly simple. Put some seeds in the ground. Water them. Give them space. Magic happens!! On windowsills and balconies and rooftops and in backyards. You don’t need a whole farm. Just a patch of dirt and a pair of hands❤️ #garden #gardening #farm #homestead #strong

Caption: Tending to bees has become a true highlight of my life. Sharing it with my little ones makes it even more special🧡 It’s early May and still freezing at night here but the bees are doing amazing! The hive was filled with honey and brood and just bursting with life. There was a single frame filled to the brim with perfectly capped honey - felt like such a gift🥹 I am much less hands-on with the bees these days than I was when I was first learning; now instead of controlling and inspecting all the time I try to give them as much space as possible and let them lead. Building a swarm hive out of a hollow tree trunk now and hoping to capture my first swarm this season (let’s see how that goes!!) 🐝 Have you ever seen the inside of a beehive? And did you know that 100% of non-Swedish honey tested on the shelves here in Sweden turned out not to be honey at all? Always get your honey locally, from real beekeepers! #beehive #beekeeper #honey #bees

Caption: Realizing that no one is coming to save me could have been a terrifying thing… but actually, it was liberating. I guess I can finally say I’m a prepper now🤷‍♀️ if the zombie apocalypse happens tomorrow (or something less unlikely say an energy collapse or world war 3 or another pandemic or a shutdown of any of the incredibly fragile systems we rely so deeply on in our day to day) - we’ll be ok. I have gone from thinking crisis preparedness was a little nutty to wearing my tinfoil hat like a crown😆 I have a 16-point master document covering every area of crisis preparedness; from water to food, first aid, communication, sanitation, health, security… And yes, we have long-term food storage that will cover us for 3+ months (something that takes way more planning than I thought to get right)! Why, you might ask? What am I preparing for? I don’t know! When Covid came along I wish I was a lot more prepared and these days, the world feels on the brink of some sort of collapse in different ways every single day. So I want to have our bases covered (if we wake up tomorrow and the power is down, I want to be able to keep my kids warm and fed!). I know you either think this is batshit crazy oooor you’ve been thinking about these things and you, too, have realized that if sh*t hits the fan, no one is coming to save you either. It’s up to us to keep our families nourished, comfortable and safe. Snow, and sun, and epic slopes, and uninterrupted conversation, and chess, and alone time and it’s so wild to me how we met just a moment ago when he was 23 and now he is 40? What? Happy birthday, my love. I love doing life with you!! (and don’t worry I won’t tell anyone you’re taking it easy in the slopes so you don’t hurt yourself and ruin golf season) #40

Caption: I had the honor of facilitating what will now be called The Girls Circle (Tjejcirkeln) for Lea and her four best friends today. We meditated (with plenty of giggles), did a round of sharing, pulled oracle cards, and everyone took turns sharing what they love most about each other. We talked about how to come together after a fight, trusting your body when it speaks to you (what does intuition even really mean?), and the value of having a group of friends you can truly trust (and how fragile trust can feel at times!). They listened intently the entire time, took turns examining my crystals, and absolutely no one sat still. It was marvelous. I am so committed to holding these girls hands as they navigate friendship, girlhood, and growing older. We live in a society that loves to pit girls against one another - how may times did we hear “girls are catty” or “girls can’t play in groups” when we were growing up? It’s not true, of course, but friendship can be complicated. I’m 37 and I still feel like I’m learning as I go. I try to make sure our home is a warm space where all is welcome; where no conversation is off-limits, where everyone can be silly and goofy and serious and vulnerable - whatever is true in each moment - and most important of all: where we always, always repair. I wish I’d had some tools or a safe place to go when I got into fights with my girlfriends at this age. Fights are normal, inevitable even. What matters is how, or if, we come back together and reconnect. I lost a lot of friends as a kid because I didn’t know how and for me, it always felt easier to leave; to check out entirely and find a new group to hang with. My heart breaks a little thinking of the girlfriends I’ve lost throughout my life; each one precious, each rift impossibly big with no one there to help us fix it. Today I realized it’s never too late to heal your old girl gang wounds. Girls can play! And fight. And mend. My inner 9-year old was thrilled to sit in this circle today🩷
